Myrna A. A. Doumit, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN is a tenured Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Hariri School of Nursing (HSON). She served as an Associate Professor and founding Assistant Dean (2011- 2022) at the Lebanese American University (LAU), School of Nursing. Dr Doumit served as a nursing faculty at AUBSON from 1990-2010.
Dr Doumit is a qualitative researcher and active scholar with expertise in oncology nursing, palliative and spiritual care, quality of life and nursing workforce. The outcomes of her research were translated to clinical practice and care of patients as evidenced by establishing an NGO “Awareness” related to Lebanese breast cancer for women and also a national program for breast cancer awareness under the name of “courage against breast cancer”. Her work influenced the Ministry of public health to adopt palliative care policies. Dr. M. Doumit has led various community and national health initiatives.
She is a member as well of national and international professional societies that promote cancer nursing education, practice and health policy. Dr. Myrna Doumit is the immediate past President of the Order of Nurses in Lebanon (2018-2021) and a Fellow at the American Academy of Nursing. She is also a member on the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health National committees for breast cancer awareness and palliative care and pain. Dr Doumit is a representative of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health on the Arab Board and she is the president of the Nursing and midwifery Scientific council. She is a founding member of the Chi Iota Chapter at AUBSON(STTI). She also served as the Coordinator of the STTI Middle East region (2015-2017). She is a reviewer for many international nursing journals. During the Pandemic she served on the Emergency National Committee for Covid and the National Committee for vaccination.
In 2018 Dr Doumit received the past President Award from ISNCC for her work in the field of Oncology. Dr. Doumit has received global recognition for outstanding service and leadership as president of the Order of Nurses in addition by being awarded WHO Health worker recognition in the category of Leadership (Oct 4, 2021) as front fighter against COVID-19. Also, she received “Women in Global Health’s heroine of Health Award” (2021) in the aftermath of the Beirut explosion. she was listed as Distinguished Nursing Alumni, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh USA. Dr Doumit was also appointed as member of WHO expert committee supporting the development of a national health sector strategy/vision 2030 for Lebanon. Myrna is a GNLI 2021 graduate. She also received “the Lebanese Order of Merit” (2022) in recognition of her work under the Pandemic. All through her work, Myrna advocated for improved recognition of nurses in Lebanon.
